In April of 2002, inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil bet ten thousand dollars that a computer will be indecipherable from human intelligence by 2029. With this bet as a starting point, WELCOME TO THE MACHINE explores our relationship to technology. What begins with a bet about intelligent machines ends up as a look into our notions of what it means be human in a world of accelerating technology.

Using expert interviews and profiles of people who have intimate relationships with technology, the film reveals the origins, history and very nature of technology. Combined with a human-originated graphic style generated by a computer, the film unfolds at the crossroads of humanity and the technological tools we have created.
